THE AI ANGLE
Automating 3D membrane segmentation and protein localization in cryo-ET imagingResearchers have developed MemBrain v2, an end-to-end open-source AI tool that automates the segmentation of cell membranes, localization of embedded proteins, and spatial analysis within 3D cryo-electron tomography images. By reducing weeks of manual annotation to just a few hours with minimal training data, the platform allows biomedical researchers to conduct structural and molecular analyses at an unprecedented scale.
THE TEACHING ANGLE
Students can examine how overcoming cryo-ET imaging gaps with automated pipelines enables data-driven revisions of fundamental biological models, such as the spatial organization of photosynthetic complexes.Read the original at phys.org Generate teaching or study materials
