Tracking anatomical keypoints and detecting loss of equilibrium from videoResearchers combined DeepLabCut posture tracking with ResNet34 image classification to objectively and automatically identify the moment fish experience loss of equilibrium under temperature stress. This replaces subjective, labor-intensive visual assessments with a reproducible method whose accuracy matches experienced researchers. The approach enables high-throughput evaluations of ectothermic thermal limits, aiding efforts to model and predict aquatic species' responses to climate change.
