Autonomously detecting nearby humans to stop, avoid, or safely assume a seated positionAgility Robotics has introduced Digit 5, a 129-kilogram humanoid worker capable of lifting 23 kilograms and operating for over 20 hours a day alongside humans without physical barriers. To prioritize lifting and squatting over dynamic agility, the robot replaces earlier bird-inspired legs with a human-like leg architecture, while resolving falling hazards by autonomously stopping or seating itself when people approach. This shift highlights how commercial viability forces humanoid engineering to balance payload capacity, power constraints, and human safety over flashy dynamic movement.
