AI measurements of heart scans more strongly linked to patient survival than clinician measurements
MedicineBiomedical Engineering
THE AI ANGLE
Measuring heart ejection fraction from MRI scansA study of over 27,000 patients showed that an algorithm measured heart function on MRI scans faster than clinicians and linked more closely to survival rates. The software analyzed scans in a few seconds compared to about thirteen minutes for expert review. These findings support using automated tools as a first-line approach to cardiac imaging with physicians verifying the results.
THE TEACHING ANGLE
Teams must determine how to balance faster automated measurements that slightly outperform clinicians with the continued need to catch a one percent patient error rate.Read the original at medicalxpress.com Generate teaching or study materials
