Although data centers currently account for less than one percent of national water use, projected demand could reach up to 1,125 billion liters annually by 2030 due to hardware cooling and fossil fuel electricity generation. Mitigating these impacts requires a combination of strategic regional siting, transitions to wind and solar power, and advanced closed-loop liquid cooling systems.
