AstroForge is putting AI in command of its next spacecraft
Aerospace EngineeringRobotics
THE AI ANGLE
Diagnosing spacecraft anomalies and executing autonomous flight controlAstroForge built an in-house transformer model called Solo to run its spacecraft autonomously. The software combines traditional control algorithms with neural networks trained on sensor data to fix anomalies during flight. This approach tests whether machine learning can replace ground control teams and expensive antenna networks.
THE TEACHING ANGLE
Engineers must weigh the unreliability of neural networks against the high cost of maintaining continuous ground communications for deep space missions.Read the original at techcrunch.com Generate teaching or study materials
