Unitree achieves extreme cost reductions through modular design, using 12 identical in-house motors, and pairing larger motors with simple low-ratio gearboxes (6.33:1) rather than expensive high-ratio reducers. This engineering strategy relies on sophisticated real-time control software to compensate for less precise hardware, enabling dynamic locomotion despite trade-offs in thermal management, component wear, and reliability.
