Driving autonomous commercial robotaxis on city streetsCalifornia enacted Senate Bill 1246 to hold autonomous vehicle operators accountable when cars obstruct emergency responders. Starting in July 2028, companies must provide local support technicians and face penalties if a vehicle blocks first responders for over 30 minutes. This forces fleet operators and municipal planners to coordinate incident management rules and vehicle status reporting.
