THE AI ANGLE
Emitting different amounts of carbon dioxide across geographic regionsBerget AI and environmental researchers released an open-source method to calculate carbon dioxide emissions from AI requests. The tool reveals that identical queries on the same hardware produce 0.4 grams of carbon dioxide in Sweden compared to 3.2 grams in Texas. This enables organizations to evaluate and compare the regional emissions of different AI models.
THE TEACHING ANGLE
Identical computing hardware yields widely different emission levels based solely on the geographic location of the request.Read the original at cio.com Generate teaching or study materials
