THE AI ANGLE
Running embedded object detection modelsToyota affiliate AISIN developed a processor that stores operating systems and model weights on integrated STT-MRAM instead of external memory. The architecture uses hybrid precision multiplication to shrink Tiny YOLOv3 weight data by 53 percent and boots in 65.7 milliseconds. This design gives robotics and vehicle engineers a path to run local image recognition without external DRAM traffic.
THE TEACHING ANGLE
Engineers can evaluate whether specialized on-chip STT-MRAM gives automotive parts suppliers a practical advantage over general-purpose chips from Nvidia and Qualcomm.Read the original at theregister.com Generate teaching or study materials
